Eligibility: Fund allocations are limited to those individuals seeking to obtain their Certification as a Drug Abuse Counselor (DAC). California residents are considered first. Scholarships are awarded to individuals who are presently attending or have been accepted to a school with a fully accredited AOD Program. Applicants must be registered with one of the Certifying Organizations recognized by the State of California. Applicants must take a minimum of 6 units per quarter. Applicants must be U.S. citizens. Each applicant is considered on his or her merits, on a case-by-case objective and non-discriminatory basis. Commitment to sobriety, academic scores, community involvement and financial need are a major factor in determining scholarship awards. Individuals convicted of violent felonies may be considered after serving their sentence and obtaining a Certificate of Rehabilitation from the State of California. Awards are renewable on a quarterly / semester basis for up to two years of undergraduate study
Amounts: Scholarship awards will be granted on a semester/quarterly basis for $500.00 per award to be applied toward tuition fees and/or textbooks.
To renew awards, students must reapply and demonstrate academic progress and continued sobriety. A minimum of 6 units per quarter must be completed with a grade point average of 3.0 or better to renew. Any evidence of drug use during term of scholarship award will eliminate possibility of future scholarship renewal.
New Applications will be available June 1, 2011 for submission by July 31, 2011. Award recipients will be announced August 15, 2011 for classes beginning in Fall 2011. This is the next available award date.
